Evelyn let go of the bracelet, letting it jingle against her hand as she got off her bed and took a few steps toward him, keeping her gaze on his. "I don't...I don't mean friends in that stupid avoid-each-other-like-angsty-emo-teenagers way," she said warily.

Evelyn stared at him and then heaved a sigh. He knew? Really? Did that mean he was going to avoid her anyways?

She crossed over to him and in one swift move, wrapped her arms around his waist in a hug, resting her head against his chest. "So you'll fake friendship to my face and then run the instant I turn?"

Jacob instinctively wrapped his arms around her and shook his head. "No, you're my friend and I'm yours. I would never run from you. " He whispered. Not liking the feelings from this. Evelyn wanted his friendship and he would give it to her. Even if his heart didn't agree.

Evelyn pulled away hastily, not wanting to get too comfortable. She peered up at his face for any indication of what he was saying to be true. "So, you..." She hesitated, shuffling on her feet. "Um, I just...I don't want you to feel like you have to wait for me. That's unfair to you, and I won't hold you to it, all right?"

"Red...as far as I see it. There isn't anyone for me right now besides you. I'm willing to wait. Its the least I can do. I wouldn't feel right flirting with another girl or whatever." Jacob said pulling away like Evelyn to avoid falling back into an old habit. "I should probably go though."

Evelyn expelled a breath and looked down at her feet and then back up at him, nodding and glancing away. "Right, right..."

Before he could leave, though, she told him to wait and walked to her nightstand, picking up the bills he'd left. She shoved them back in his hand. "I already owe you enough," she said, frowning at him. "I won't take this."

"No please just take it, I felt like absolute shit about how I acted today. You owe me nothing, I broke your window and was a jerk." Jacob pushed the money away into her hands.

"I overreacted about the damn window," Evelyn said stubbornly, shoving the bills into his hand again. She grabbed his fingers and curled them over the money, ignoring the familiar tingle they sent down her arm. "Seriously, Jake."

Jacob's hands closed over the bills, he ignored the sensation he felt when he would touch her. And handed them to her again. "Seriously Evelyn, this probably won't be the last time I break something of yours."

This caused Evelyn to gape and splutter angrily for a moment. "You - agh, Jake!" she said irritably. She shoved the bills into his hoodie pocket. "Keep. It. You can make it up by giving me a free latte next time I visit."

"Fine if you won't take the money for the window, at least take the ten I overcharged you for. And I'll give you free coffee next time you come in, okay?" Jake asked hoping that she would at least take some of the money.

Evelyn acquiesced to this. She took the ten dollar bill from him and stuffed it into her pocket. "Happy, Saint Duck?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow up at him.

She shook his hand off, brushing her flying hair out of her eyes. "I hear a fifty foot drop to hard pavement calling your name."

At that second, shrill barking announced Nova's approach. He bounded into the room and leaped up at Jake happily, tail and tongue wagging.

Jake beamed as he scooped up Nova in his arms. "Awwww my son! I've missed you." Jake pet him, scratching his belly too.

Jacob snorted, lifting Nova into the air. "He's my son, yes he is." Jake cooed. Rubbing noses with him. "You're so big, and fluffy."

Evelyn frowned. "Yes, he is big. Big enough to get us both in serious trouble. The dons have started turning a blind eye but I doubt they can hide it form their supervisors," she commented, watching Nova wag his tail and yip excitedly.

Jake frowned hugging him, "I know. Its just I have no idea where else we could stick him. At least until we get our own place off of campus."

Evelyn faltered at that. Our own place? Whose? "Well, we only have a few more months. I guess we can manage it. And if it gets to worst, ship him to your parents," she suggested, reaching over and stroking Nova's muzzle. He licked her fingers.
