"Well no sense in denying it, sorry I'm cuter than you pup." James said smugly leaning against the wall as he waited for the elevator, "So, did you enjoy the gift I got you?" He asked her.

She pulled her hand away from Nova's mouth and lifted her eyes over to James'. "Yeah, it was really..." Her smile twitched. "cute...and interesting that'd you'd give me something with a cross on it." Evelyn smirked at him and then entered the lift when it appeared.

"Yeah I know it was odd, it had the crosses on it but it just seemed kind of you in an odd way. But glad you liked it. I think the knife is real sweet by the way. Kind of reminds me of one my grandpa used to have." James commented on Evelyn's gift as they both went into the elevator.

Evelyn's smile flickered a little at this and she fought down a cringe as she hit the G button in the lift's CP. She leaned against the wall by the panel and forced a smile at James. "I figured it'd be useful in the city."

"Girl, invest yourself in a double-edged pocket knife. I have one, it's really sweet!" She could hear Jake's voice in her head clearly. Evelyn had stopped herself from almost buying the engraved handmirror when she remembered Jake's words: the pocket-knife would be a much more useful gift to James.

Evelyn fought down a wave of nausea and her stomach clenched painfully along with her heart. She ruffled Nova's head as he growled quietly at James over the lip of the bag. "So uh, I have to go walk Nova. You wanna come with?" she asked James, keeping her voice even as the elevator moved downwards.

"Its kinda cold out, but sure why not. I've got nothing better to do." James smiled.

"I'm just gonna walk him along the street a bit. I'd take him to Central Park but it's kind of pointless right now, all covered in snow."

She pursed her lips. "Oh, what the hell. He rarely gets out. We'll see, Nova. If you don't bite anybody this time."

Nova yipped at her and widened his damnable brown eyes. Evelyn nudged his head back into her bag and half-zipped it just as the lobby appeared.

James got a text from Luke as they walked out of the elevator and he looked over at Evelyn, "Hey listen I would like to come but Luke, he needs me for something so maybe we can chill later, I'll see ya Ev." James waved to her and decided to take the stairs since he didn't feel like taking the elevator again.

Evelyn had paused in the doorway of the lobby and she nodded at James. "All right. Catch you later."

She turned and made her way out to the quad, trudging through the freshly fallen
snow. A light snow was still flurrying down and Evelyn knelt to let Nova
out of her bag. Then she turned toward the street.

"Dude! She made you her SLAVE! She was a gold-digger, made you take her and all her friends shopping! At those fuckin' designer places!" Connor yelped, flailing his arms.

"I...remember that," Seth said, taking out his phone to reply to Jake on Facebook. He didn't know why he didn't feel angry about this. He was just so damn confused.

His brows furrowed. "Jake's telling me basically the same thing and it's just....I don't know why I would pick a fight with James on formal night, man. I get into arguments but I don't like to pick fights."
