Freshmen Dorms

Seth heaved a breath. "Well, not like I can do much about it. Jake's pigheaded, you know that. Maybe we should just let this crash and fizzle itself out? But that girl will hurt him. I can just tell. Honestly, I thought Jake was immune to feminine wiles."

Evelyn walked past the idiot in the doorway, heading for the bathroom with the blue outfit over her arm. "Weren't you leaving?"

"He was never immune Seth, he likes to pretend he is, but if anything his weakness is a pretty girl he can't help it at all. He won't tell you right away if he likes a girl or not, but trust me its noticeable when he does like a girl." Lola said twirling her curly hair around her finger remembering how Jake first was when he started talking to Rachel.

"I was but I need my phone, and I know you have it, so I figured you could take me to dinner with you and then you'll surprise me with it being baked in my dessert." Jake said to Evelyn who was now in the bathroom.

Seth groaned. "He hasn't liked a girl since Rachel. From what I've seen, it's just been hookups for him. Honestly, if it makes you feel better, Rachel always gave me weird vibes even when she was with him."

Evelyn had taken much satisfaction in slamming the bathroom door in Jake's face. She quickly changed into her white jeans, and blue top, holding the cardi over her arm. She stuffed Jake's phone securely into her bra again and emerged from the bathroom, walking past Jake to her room and picking up her hair brush to brush out the tangled mane. She mused for a second. "I'm going to dinner with my girlfriends, Sal. They're not your regular hoes."

"That's because Rachel is a fucking psycho. I don't know Seth I think he likes Evelyn, but he's trying really hard to ignore that." Lola said finally getting into the elevator.

Jake gasped mildly offended! He could be nice if he needed to, "Hey! I can be nice! Like hello I'm way nicer to you then I should be."

Seth had to agree. "What was she like at first, like seriously, what did he see in her? I mean, I met her two years ago and I disliked her on sight. And this is me, I like every hot girl, you know?" He smirked. "Except maybe you."

Evelyn worked on a particularly rough tangle and put down her brush to run her fingers through the knot. "Did you just say like?" she asked, cheekily, grinning at him in the mirror. She adjusted the pretty blue top and then rubbed some mouse on her fingers, running it through her hair to turn it into bouncy curls as opposed to a dead mop. "And I never asked you to be nice to me."

She paused, suddenly feeling strangely awkward. Why did he have that weird tendency to be almost sweet at the strangest times? To her of all people?

Lola ignored Seth's final statement completely, thinking back on Rachel when Jake had first met her and started hanging around her. It had been before Seth had met Jake or her, happier times in Lola's opinion, "Honestly Seth, I guess she was better at playing Jake because she was on the dance team with me and she was just real nice and sweet. There wasn't anything bad I could say about her I just thought she was one of those genuinely nice girls, and we were wrong. I mean she was freaking shy at first she wouldn't really talk to anyone unless you talked to her at first and when she started to hang out with me and Jake, it was Jake who got her to like open up and crap."

Lola leaned back against the elevator as it descended to the ground floor, "She didn't start to become like super crazy until our senior year, even then I can't even pin point when it happened."

"I know, but its kind of funny being nice to you. Cause you never believe it, so its even funnier to bug you." Jake said smiling and flicking the back of her head.

Seth frowned. "She probably decided she could safely show her true colors?" He exhaled. "Eh, whatever. Hopefully she never shows up. As for Red...well, honestly, she's never nice to Jake. She treats him like shit a lot of the time. So I don't know what he's doing here. He's not that nice to her either," Seth added truthfully.

Evelyn swatted at his hand, not bothering to turn around. She fiddled in her makeup box for a certain eyeliner. "You don't bug me when you're nice," she said honestly, more focused on her missing liner than on what she was saying. She found it finally and leaned over to the mirror to carefully apply it. "You just make me feel like crap for being a bitch."

"I guess so, I don't know if they're not civil to each other then I don't get why they even hang out with each other then. That's beyond me." Lola said stepping out of the elevator and sitting in the lobby waiting for her friend.

Jake couldn't help his eyes when they wandered to Evelyn as she leaned over to apply her make up and although his brain was telling him not to, his mouth decided not to listen, "Your ass looks good in those jeans, Roja." He grinned.

"Plus you should feel bad, why do you have to be a bitch all the time? Sometimes you're actually kind of fun to be around I don't understand why you're not more like that with people." Jake stated in an almost admitting way that he actually liked spending time with her sometimes.

Seth frowned, punching in the button for the lift. He'd already texted Connor. "It's bizarre. But hey, maybe he'll wake up in time, right? He's already rebounded, but she probably hasn't."

Evelyn froze up for a second. Her cheeks heated and then she felt a stab of exasperation again. She didn't know if she should be embarrassed or annoyed.

She frowned at him in the mirror before she started her second eye. "Were you seriously...never mind." She cringed. "Eyes up here, Sal. I know I'm goodlooking, I don't need you ogling me to prove it." She grinned at him as she said this, before looking back down at her eye liner.

"Hope he does." Lola muttered seeing Brooke walk into the lobby, waving at her and she spoke into the phone, "Well Seth gotta cut this short my friend is here. See ya later Blondie." With that Lola hung up her phone and went with Brooke to go out for the night.

"It's not my fault I am in perfect view of your ass." Jacob said, watching her put on make up. He walked over to her and rested his elbows down on her table where she did her make up, and watched her.

"You ever poke your eye out when you're doing that?" He asked curiously. He remembered asking Lola this and she responded by shoving her eyeliner up his nose. That was a few weeks ago.

Seth got on the lift and rode it down, heading to Zeke's place.

Evelyn glanced sideways at Jake and briefly considered letting him feel how painful an eyeliner could be. She smirked and put the wand down before she blinded him on impulse. "You know that whole niceness thing you mentioned? I don't like to overuse it. I'm not really the type of person who goes around hugging the homeless. Nice people get stepped on. I'm nice if you've earned it." She picked out her nude lipstick and added, "Like for now, I should have poked your eye out all King Lear for shamelessly commenting on my butt. You know I'm armed."

A normal person would have taken this as their cue to leave, but in Jake's mind he decided to sit back and enjoy his murder.

Jake laughed at her comment, and watched her a bit longer put on make up still slightly intrigued by all of this.

Jake looked her over, seeing the more final image of Evelyn, she looked really pretty right now. Not that she never did, but she looked beautiful as she was finishing getting ready.

The blue shirt she was wearing really brought out her pretty green eyes.

Jake placed a finger under her chin, lifting her to meet his gaze and he said softly, "You look really beautiful Evelyn."

Jacob closed what little space was left between them, kissing her softly.

The lipstick tube fell from her hand, clattering onto the dressing table's wooden surface. Evelyn froze up, unable to pull away from him - her arms were stiff by her sides. For a full three seconds, she was so baffled, she couldn't think too straight. Then, she couldn't really think at all. Her head swam, her stomach turned nervously and she felt feverish all over again.

And she did the only thing that came to mind - she straightened, willed her unmoving hands up to rest flatly on Jake's chest, and her hands shook. And she forgot she was supposed to shove him away, maybe slap him. Instead, she did something she'd regret: for a half-second, she kissed him back.

Her mind didn't forget. Alarm bells rang in her head. Nobody crossed this line. No guy had unless they happened to be James. And this guy most definitely didn't. Jake knew better. What was he doing?!

Evelyn's hands twitched and she pushed him away feebly, feeling strangely like she couldn't breathe.

Jake pulled away from the light touch he felt from her. He still felt like he was in a haze, and then he felt like the fog was starting to lift and realized what he had done. He got up slowly and backed up into her wall and didn't really move. He couldn't believe what he had just done!

Why did he do that? What was he thinking?!

He knew he had crossed a line, a real major freaking boundary, one that was covered by barbed wire and land mines but apparently he didn't seem to get this message. At first he thought it was some really vivid weird dream, because he wouldn't do this ever. Or would he... no no he wouldn't because he didn't like Evelyn like that!

Jacob stared at Evelyn his dark eyes wide, not really sure what to say or how to explain himself.

Evelyn snapped out of her stunned trance when Nova came bounding over to nudge her ankles. She pulled her gaze off Jake's and glanced down, dazedly wondering what the puppy wanted. He was probably starving by now, she figured.

She picked up her lipstick where it had rolled off the dresser to the floor. She still felt so completely thrown that the fact that she was horribly late didn't really occur to her. Her body felt frozen and her mind was clouded. She should probably be panicked and kill this boy, she knew. She just wasn't quite there yet.

"Don't call me that. Ever," she said quietly, because it was the first thing that came to her mind. She walked over to her purse, where it lay waiting on her nightstand, the white bag she'd lent Ashlee. She slipped her phone into it along with the lipstick and a pair of sunglasses.

Nova sat down on his rump and whined at them. Evelyn reminded herself she still had his feeding bowl.

Jacob stood there silently, he looked down at Nova who just widened his eyes up at him no doubt hungry since he had been out all day, he felt so different. His insides just seemed to be buzzing, his heart still racing as he looked at the back of Evelyn's head.

"Why?" He asked quietly.

Stop, quit while you're ahead! Remember how you're supposed to listen to me? Listen to me now! STOP!

But of course Jake didn't listen to the voice of reason in his head, he just ignored it, "Is it because its true, because you are."

Evelyn froze up again for a moment. She had to inhale sharply before she could pick up her bag and sling it over her shoulder. She turned around warily to face Jake, and already her wall was trying to cover up her raging emotions. It was having a hard time - she was completely confused more than anything else. Second only to frustration.

She stared cautiously at Jake, like he was a particularly deadly snake that might sink deadly fangs into her if she got too close. Despite herself, she felt her voice quaver as she said quietly but bluntly, "I don't care if it's true. I just don't like....what are you trying to do, Jake?" she burst out, half-angry, half-scared. If he wanted to get even with her about his phone, he'd definitely gotten it and then some.

What was he trying to do? He had no clue, he had no idea why he had kissed her just now, or why he called her beautiful... twice! In the last five minutes.

He shook his head shrugging, "I don't know...I don't know what I'm doing." He admitted.

Evelyn swallowed hard and then looked over at Nova, who was now nudging his small head against her ankles again, clearly hungrier. She looked up at Jake and cleared her throat. "I think I should- you need to- uh, Nova needs to be fed," she stammered, completely off-guard. Until her wall came back up fully, she was going to be hopelessly disoriented.

Jake figured that was the best solution and was wondering why he hadn't thought of that earlier to get out of here, he reached down picking up Nova and said, "Yeah right I'll go feed him..." He said walking out of Evelyn's room without much a word else, with that he opened the door to their suite and walked out into the main hallway closing the door behind him. Although he hadn't really moved too much from there.

Evelyn waited till the door shut and then sat down heavily on her bed, breathing out in a long exhale. She rubbed her face with her shaking hands. What the hell had just happened?

Oh my God. Oh my FREAKING God. Why would he do that? Why would I do that? What now? What do I do now? This wasn't in the contract! Hell, the contract ended! That doesn't mean that he can...he can...

But it wasn't like she hadn't returned it. And that alone agonized her. Frustrated, Evelyn decided she should just leave already before her head exploded.

She got up, strode out down the hallway to the front door and pulled it open, walking through - and straight into Jake's back. Nova gave an alarmed bark in the Spaniard's arms. Evelyn clamped her hands over her aching nose. It began to throb painfully and her eyes stung. "Merde! Jacob!" She was still completely frustrated both with herself and him.

"Jesus Christ Red!" Jake shouted nearly dropping Nova, but managed to hold onto him, "Seriously I'll get out of your way you don't have to knock me over!"

Evelyn's face reddened, either in anger or embarrassment, and she glared at him, taking a step back into the doorway. "You weren't supposed to be here! I was just leaving!"

"Yeah well so am I!" Jake said getting to their door and opening it, he slammed it close and put Nova down and let him dart into the dorm straight to the kitchen.

"Shit." Jake cursed quietly to himself as he went to the kitchen to get him some food.

Evelyn pulled a face at Jake's back and headed to the elevator. It came after a long while. She pulled out her phone and checked the address.

When the elevator came, she got on and set off for Rockefeller.

Ashton glanced up from where he was watching TV while doing his homework. "Yo," he said absently to Jake. "Seth was looking for you. He called this morning but you didn't answer. He had to go babysit a hawk or some crazy shit."
